About Lynn and the A Natural Food Diet website
By Lynn, webmaster of A Natural Food Diet | Site Info
I'm Lynn, the webmaster of A Natural Food Diet. I had the idea for this site when I realized how few people understood how dangerous our typical American diet is. For nearly 10 years, I have struggled to lose weight. After having children and making changes to my diet that seemed "healthy" at the time, I had gained over 50 pounds. I could never understand why I was gaining so much weight and why I was having such a hard time losing it, because until then, when I was about 25, I had never been overweight.
Slowly, as I researched different issues I was having with diet and health, I discovered the dangers of sugar. I had an allergic reaction to Sucralose. I began to associate a headache with hunger instead of an empty, growling stomach. And after a "good" meal, I often felt light-headed. I worried that I was on the path to diabetes. Then, one day, I came across a book that changed my perspective forever.
The book wasn't about what you might think. The Glycemic-Load Diet: A powerful new program for losing weight and reversing insulin resistance (or ebook) by cardiologist Dr. Rob Thompson was an answer to the funny feeling I had before and after I ate "good" foods. Within days, I started noticing how changing my diet was significantly affecting the way I felt. That was when I started in earnest to look at what effects a modern diet has on a person's health.
My search led me to In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto (or ebook or audio book download) by Michael Pollan, What to Eat?: The Ten Things You Really Need to Know to Eat Well and Be Healthy (or ebook) by Luise Light, and several others.
Two months into the new natural food diet I had begun to follow, I realized I had to share this information with other people. I had discovered that the easiest way to get healthy eating food was to eat whole, natural foods and follow a natural food diet. We have a right to live a truly healthy and natural life, and the profit potential of food products should never be allowed to come between us and our good health.
My goal for this site is to give you something to think about when it comes to processed and industrialized foods. I want to encourage you to try a natural food diet as a replacement for a modern, industrialized diet and see if you don't feel a major difference in your body.
I certainly do. My energy levels have increased, my cravings for certain foods have disappeared, and I find myself thinking about food less than ever before. I no longer feel the urge to graze between meals and I don't get headaches when I go longer than usual without a meal, for whatever reason. At the time that I'm writing this, I've lost over 10 pounds in 4 weeks with minimal effort and I see myself, finally, successfully getting rid of that extra 50 pounds I've been carrying for nearly 10 years now.
Without modern food products getting in the way, my eating lifestyle is more nutritionally sound than ever before. :) What about yours?

The Glycemic-Load Diet: A powerful new program for losing weight and reversing insulin resistance by cardiologist Dr. Rob Thompson is the first of the many books I've read or listened to that encouraged eating more natural foods and discouraged the eating of refined foods. The book discuss the increase in insulin resistance that's been brought on by the modern American (westernized) diet and how that has impacted our health. This book is a must read for anyone who worries about diabetes and what a modern diet is doing to their blood glucose levels and overall health.

What to Eat?: The Ten Things You Really Need to Know to Eat Well and Be Healthy by Luise Light is only one of the many books I've read or listened to about eating natural food. The book discuss USDA guidelines for healthy eating and exposes the truth behind just how much influence the food industry has over what food choices appear in the USDA guidelines. This book is an enlightening read for anyone interested in food concerns.
