Convenient Natural Food

Eating organic health food shouldn't involve a lot of work and it doesn't if you do it right.

Natural convenience foods—not an oxymoron

  • Almonds, walnuts, cashews, and other nuts don't have to be snack foods. Use them as a side dish or as part of an entree-sized salad.
  • Raw fruits are great side dishes, especially with children. My children are much more fond of fruits than vegetables.
  • Serve raw vegetables as your side dishes: tomatoes, lettuces, spinach, slices of onion, cucumber, and radishes.
  • Using organic butter or olive oil (butter is my favorite), sauté shrimp seasoned with your favorite spices and nitrite-free bacon over salad greens, with an olive oil and vinegar dressing. Super quick and light lunch. Serve with fresh grapefruit, orange slices and nuts or cheese.
  • Sauté green beans in some organic butter, or pan roast some vegetables—takes less than 10 minutes, tops.
  • Roast chicken takes 5 minutes to spice up, about 25-30 minutes in the oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit, and takes about 5 minutes to rest so the juices redistribute nicely. Drizzle with seasoned butter and serve over salad greens with some sliced tomato and a selection of organic cheeses.
  • Plain yogurt with a teaspoon or two of honey and some berries on top is a great dessert.
  • Make your own hot chocolate mix for the days when you want a little something sweet: 1 part cocoa, 2 parts organic sugar, pinch of salt. Mix and store in an airtight container. When you want hot chocolate, mix 2 teaspoons of the mix for every 4 ounces of hot milk. It's that simple—and packaged hot cocoa can't beat the rich flavor.
