A natural, organic, healthy food diet is something you should consider a must, not a wish. Yes, my grocery budget had to increase, but only slightly. And every time I buy local, organic fruit and vegetable produce, I realize I'm voting for a safer, healthier food supply with my food dollars. If I'm going to scrimp on something, I'd much rather it be a piece of clothing, a pair of shoes, or even a haircut. Scrimping on food really doesn't make sense, since the quality of the food you eat really does determine the quality of the life you lead. Garbage in, garbage out, as they say.

Did you know that when margarine first appeared on store shelves, it was believed to be the answer to the low-fat diet craze that said butter was bad for your heart? Then came the revelation that the transfats found in margarine were worse for your heart than butter can ever dream of being. In fact, there's little evidence to support a low-fat diet. Our bodies metabolize our food, whether it's fat, fruit, or protien and turn it into whatever it needs. Fat doesn't make you fat. But it was too late. So many people had made the switch from butter to margarine that today, there are kids out there who have never even tasted real butter. In fact, I was one of them. I had never used real butter until I was over 30 years old.
